Terms of Service

Last updated: 22 March 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the imSteyn website and AI tutoring platform at imsteyn.com(“the Service”), operated by QR Scout Pty Ltd (ABN pending) (“we”, “us”, “our”), a company registered in Australia.

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility and Accounts

1.1 Parent Accounts

You must be at least 18 years of age to create an imSteyn account. Accounts are created by parents or legal guardians (“Parents”). By creating an account, you represent that you are the parent or legal guardian of any child you add to the platform.

1.2 Child Profiles

Parents may add up to 3 children per year level to their account. Children use the Service under parental supervision and consent. Parents are responsible for their children’s use of the Service.

1.3 Co-Parent Access

Parents may invite other adults (“Co-Parents”) to view their child’s progress. By sending an invite, you confirm you have the right to share your child’s learning data with that person. Co-Parents have read-only access to progress, test results, and activity logs.

1.4 Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Notify us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorised access. We are not liable for losses caused by unauthorised use of your account.

2. The Service

2.1 What imSteyn Is

imSteyn is an AI-powered tutoring platform that uses the Socratic method to help Australian students learn mathematics. The Service is aligned to the Australian Curriculum and supports Year 7–12 Mathematics.

2.2 What imSteyn Is Not

  • imSteyn is not a replacement for classroom teaching. It is a supplementary learning tool.
  • imSteyn is not a qualified human tutor. All tutoring responses are generated by artificial intelligence (Anthropic’s Claude).
  • imSteyn is not a crisis or counselling service. If the AI detects a child may be in distress, it directs them to Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800) and notifies the parent, but this does not constitute professional support.

2.3 AI-Generated Content

Tutoring responses are generated by AI and may occasionally contain errors. While we design our prompts carefully and the Service is aligned to the Cambridge Essential Mathematics textbooks, we do not guarantee that every AI response is perfectly accurate. Parents and students should treat the Service as a learning aid, not an authoritative source.

2.4 Availability

We aim to provide the Service 24/7 but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may perform maintenance, updates, or experience outages. We will endeavour to notify users of planned downtime where possible.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Submit content that is illegal, obscene, threatening, or harassing.
  • Attempt to manipulate, jailbreak, or override the AI tutor’s safety instructions.
  • Upload images containing inappropriate, illegal, or harmful content.
  • Use the Service for any purpose other than educational tutoring.
  • Create multiple accounts to exploit free trial periods.
  • Attempt to access other users’ accounts or data.
  • Scrape, crawl, or programmatically access the Service without written permission.
  • Interfere with the Service’s infrastructure or security mechanisms.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, without refund.

4. Safety and Monitoring

All conversations between children and the AI tutor are stored and available for parental review. Our AI includes safety monitoring that detects:

  • Expressions of distress or self-harm
  • Inappropriate language or content
  • Attempts to use the platform for non-educational purposes

When a safety concern is detected, we automatically notify the parent via email. Safety alert records are retained permanently and cannot be deleted, even upon account closure.

5. Subscriptions and Payment

5.1 Free Trial

New accounts receive a 7-day free trial with full access to all features. No credit card is required for the trial. One free trial per email address.

5.2 Pricing

After the trial, access to tutoring features requires an active subscription. Current pricing is A$15 per month per subject. Up to 3 children are included per parent account at no additional per-child fee. Pricing may change with 30 days’ notice to existing subscribers.

5.3 Billing

Payments are processed by Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically each month. You can cancel anytime via the Stripe Customer Portal accessible from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

5.4 Refunds

We do not offer routine refunds for partial months. If you experience a significant service issue, contact [email protected] and we will consider refund requests on a case-by-case basis.

6. Intellectual Property

6.1 Our Content

The imSteyn platform, including its design, code, AI prompt engineering, branding, and documentation, is the intellectual property of QR Scout Pty Ltd. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of the Service.

6.2 Your Content

You retain ownership of content you submit (messages, uploaded images). By submitting content, you grant us a limited licence to process, store, and display it as necessary to provide the Service (including sending it to our AI provider for generating responses).

6.3 Curriculum Content

The Service is aligned to the “Essential Mathematics for the Australian Curriculum” series (Cambridge University Press), covering Years 7–12. Topic structures and curriculum alignment are used for educational reference purposes. We do not reproduce textbook content verbatim.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Australian law:

  • The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
  • We do not warrant that AI responses will be error-free or suitable for any particular purpose.
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.
  • Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under Australian Consumer Law, including guarantees under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth).

8. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information. Our Privacy Policy forms part of these Terms.

9. Termination

9.1 By You

You may close your account at any time by contacting [email protected]. Upon closure, your subscription will be cancelled and your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy (except safety alerts and records required by law).

9.2 By Us

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, engage in abusive behaviour, or if required by law. We will provide reasonable notice where possible, except in cases of serious or immediate violation.

10. Disputes and Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the courts of New South Wales, Australia.

Before initiating formal proceedings, you agree to contact us at [email protected] and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
